Rigsum CC versus Pung Dzong CC played important match of their tournament today at Jigmethang ground to place their seat in semi. Pung Dzong CC won the toss and elected to field first. Due to rain, 30 overs match was scheduled. Rigsum openers couldn’t do that much this time when they lost their wickets just adding 17 runs on the score board but it was Thinley and Captain Sonam who added 116 runs to lead their total to 193 runs in 27.4 overs.

Thinley at 63 runs was run out by Susil and Sonam at 53 run was caught at cover when he tried for reverse sweep shot. Pung Dzong’s Ambrish took 3 for 9 runs in 5 overs and Lalit took 4 for 24 runs in 4 overs.  “Pung Dzong’s two main players couldn’t make it for this match and suffered losing by 52 runs” said captain Kinley.

When Pung Dzong went into bat, the opener Susil started with blistering shots with 12runs in first over. They were 43 for non in their fifth overs but Ambrish was trapped on LBW of sherab’s bowl in 6 overs. Susil kept on fighting and went out at 30 runs.

Hari at 14runs and Lalit at 30 runs were other two batsmen added runs on the board. Pung Dzong were all-out in 141runs in 22 overs.  Sonam with 4 for 30 in 6 overs was the highest wicket taker from Rigsum CC. "I am glad to be in semi final "said the owner of Rigsum CC. Pung Dzong could have turn the game into their game if they could have played calculating cricket but applying high risk shots and low percentage gain they lost six wicket  by caught. Pung Dzong is out  of the tournament but Rigsum still have one match lgainst BTCL to decide top team of the group.

Yesterday, Bhutan telecom defeated Druk Trowa by 214 runs in their second match. Jigme Singye and Shiva were the main pillars for Bhutan Telecom to rejoice their victory. At one time Druk Trowa bowlers were on top of the BT batsmen when they were 105 for 7 wickets down but the partnership build by Jigme and Shiva at unstable situation helped BT to win the match comfortably. BT won the toss and elected to bat first.  BT opening batsmen had a partnership of 36 runs when they lost their first wicket of Chencho Dorji at 4 in Arpan’s bowl and in next over they lost Tashi at 17 runs in Lachumi’s bowl.
Dorji and Jigme Singye added 51 runs of partnership on the score board in 5 overs and then Dorji got caught by wicketkeeper while playing wide on leg side ball. Jigme Singye at 10 runs also got life line when he was drop by Padam at mid-on and it became costly wicket for Druk Trowa in the end when Jigme added 171 runs individually. "I am glad to set a new record in Bhutanese soil"  said  Jigme Singye. BT’s most of their wickets fell effortlessly and quickly but Druk Trowa couldn’t take the advantage of it when they just need three wickets to keep BT below 150 runs. Shiva batsmen number nine scored 64 runs when he unfortunately run-out himself but the partnership of 169 runs with Jigme placed the BT’s total score to 296 runs in 39 overs. Jigme with Tail Enders decided to go for boundaries to add more runs on the board as quickly as possible.

The last two batsmen just faced 5 balls but it was Jigme who played a calculating cricket and ending his inning at 171 runs of 128 balls. BT was all-out at 343 runs in 43.2 overs. Ugyen with 3 wickets for 38 runs in 6.2 overs was conceded as highest wicket taker from Druk Trowa.

Druk Trowa with-out an experience batsmen on the side, it was not possible to chase this target were all-out for 129 in 25 overs. Their first wicket fell in third over of the match and another five wickets fell within 11th over.

Druk Trowa was 37 runs for 6 when lower batsmen added 82 runs to  set their total score to 127 runs in 25 overs. Padam with 27runs in 22 balls was the higher scorer from Druk Trowa.

Tshering Dorji of Friends United was the first batsman to score century with a record of 118 runs was finally broken down after 8 years by Jigme Singye in club level. Jigme was awarded Player of the match for 171 runs and 1 wicket. Tandin Wangchuk with 6 wickets for 31 runs in 9 overs of BT was the highest wicket taker.

Easy victory for Pung Dzong CC


Pung Dzong defeated Drubchu XI by 120 runs today in second match of BCCB Super league. Pung Dzong won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers Shami and Ahmed set the highest opening partnership of 113 runs but as the match went on Drubchu’s bowler Norbu changed the whole game by take 6 for 35 runs in 7 overs. Shami was the highest scorer from Pung Dzong by scoring 58 runs in 53 balls. Pung Dzong maintained the run rate of 11.34 per over in 15 overs but Drubchu’s under pressure bowlers struggling with line and length came back after drinks break with tight fielding and correcting basic fundamental of bowling which put Pung Dzong with just 180 runs on board. When Drubchu's captain gave Norbu to ball, he was  also struggling with Line and length but the moment when he started pitching up the wickets of Pung Dzong started pouring.

Drubchu XI opener Karma started with dashing leg glance but when the first wicket of Dawa felt with in swinger yoker of Alan Drubchu kept on losing wickets. The Opening bowlers of Pung Dzong were too tough for Drubchu batters to face due to their both swings and yoker ball. Few players of Dubchu were also injured by facing shot pitched bouncer of Alan and Sig Singh.

Ham was only the batter from Dubchu with two digits of 11 runs but rests were out for 1, 2 and duck  Drubchu's 6 wickets came from openers; while rest came after introducing Susil offy and Rag pacer. Susil and Rog took two wickets each. “Our team is not use to playing on big ground and also on matting so I think they were not confident today” said KT Dorji manager of Drubchu XI.

Youth XI battle out against Druk Trowa & Himalayan Adventures

BCCB Super League 2010 commenced today at Jigmethang ground, Thimphu. The opening match was played against Druk Trowa & Himalayan Adventures and Youth XI who won the match by 17 runs. Youth XI won the toss and elected to bat. The 1st innings started with magnificent catch caught by Sonam at shot cover of  Jable bowled by Lakshmi in his third ball of second overs. Youth XI maintained the runs rate at 7.31 runs per over but could not able to keep their wickets which let them set with only 118 runs in 15.3overs where 53 runs came from extras.

“We the won match but I am not happy with my team members because they are not playing 50 overs match and we have to be serious now” said team captain Subash. Druk Trowa’s pace bowler took wickets but land up paying too much extras but when spinner was introduced the game completely went into Druk Trowa’s hand. Biswa and Sultan was the highest scorer by adding 26 of 28 and 24 of 23.

In the 2nd inning two openers had 28 runs partnership but when first wicket knock down Druk Trowa started losing wickets. The only batsmen who score double digits were the Yeshey Samdrup with 27 runs of 89 balls. And again it was same with Youth XI who gave away 53 extras which made them almost lost the game.

At one situation it was Druk Trowa’s game when they just needed 45 runs from 25 overs but with high risk shot and low percentage gain Druk Trowa’s batters went they slack their momentum and lost the game by very close margin. Youth XI pacers collected some wickets but gave away many extras but when Subash the slow arm pacer bowled with line and length to Trowa’s middle orders they game completely changed. Subba was declared Player of the Match by taking 4 wickets for 13 runs in 7 overs. “We changed the game not the opposition; our silly mistakes made us lose the game” said the Captain of Druk Trowa.

BCCB Super league 2010 consists of 9 teams. One from Punakha and one from Phuntsholing but rest are from Thimphu is placed in two groups and will be playing league round. The tournament will end up on 31st July 2010.
