ACC Trophy Elite, Kuwait 21 – 30 April 2010

Bhutan Senior Team will be participating in the forthcoming ACC Trophy Elite to be held in Kuwait from 21 – 30 April. Training camp will commence from 1st of November 2009 till second week of March 2010. First 2 months, we will be mainly focusing on the fitness of Bhutanese team. “This is a very important tournament for us because senior have to perform well to stay in the elite group” said Jigme Norbu, CEO of Bhutan Cricket. He also added that winning is important but at this stage we can’t say anything about winning because all the teams in the elite group are a far experience than our boys but we have to make sure that we stay in elite group where we get more international matches. Bhutan Cricket is also planning to have a new foreign coach for duration of 4 weeks before the tournament commences. For last 3 years National Coach Responsibility has been taken by DS Gurung but now the selection committee thinks that he should play for senior. “I am happy for what I did as a coach but now I think I should play because we are in elite and we need an experience player as well as captain to lead the side” said DS Gurung. Selection committee has called 20 probable’s players to go through the selection camp and final fourteen will be selected at the end of March 2010.

This year Bhutan played in ACC Trophy Challenge and stood 2nd in the tournament. Now Bhutan Senior team has qualified to play in the Elite group and winner of the Elite tournament will qualify for Asia Cup 2011.
