ACC CDO in Bhutan for country assessment

Rumesh Ratnayake, CDO Asian Cricket Council is in Bhutan for duration of 5 days for assessment of cricket development in Bhutan. Yesterday he had two hours net session with U19 women cricket team which was very impressive and productive also. The session was mainly to strengthen their batting, bowling and Fielding techniques said Rumesh.

He also added that the girls are very talented and very enthusiastic and he is just surprised with the positive attitude. Three years back when I came here as a CDO, I didn’t see any girl playing cricket but now girls has equal interest as that of boy's . He will also conduct one session with girls along with boys on Monday before he leaves Bhutan. Bhutan has come long way and has long way to go before they compete in international tournament he said. Bhutan has potential and talents which could be groomed and natured into professional. He also said that earlier to beat countries like Maldives and Thailand was impossible but now Bhutan can beat them with ease. Bhutan has number and country like Malaysia don’t, which is just the opposite scenario. Bordering with titanic cricketing nation like India is just added advantage to Bhutan and excess to television is windfall as watching game in TV can teach and learn about the game. Bhutan is on the precise track and has lots of room to progress said Rumesh.

Rumesh is very much experience in coaching and I have also learned much from him. Now I am focusing on my coaching so working with person like Rumesh is an opportunity for me said DS Gurung, Coaching Coordinator. He also added that Bhutanese Women’s Cricketer are well-groomed to learn things quickly, so I do believe that they do have learn to understand cricket more through Rumesh.

On his Day 2 in Thimphu, he was also interviewed by the local newspaper “Business Bhutan” where he has expressed his idea to take Bhutan Cricket further during his assignment as CDO to Bhutan.
