Nima HS School for the first time participated in the U19 School Championship is the Winner for this year. In the final match Nima played against Yangchenphug HS School on 4th Oct at Changlimithang Cricket Ground and the match was commenced at 9.30am. Nima won the toss and elected to bat first. The most consistent batsmen of the tournament were Kencho who opens for Nima was shattered with superb, well executed yoker ball bowled the first ball of Abinash of Yangchenphu. Nima’s mostly depend on the captain’s batting was out just adding 2 runs on the final match but mean while Thinley who was also in-form batsmen was still on crease. Thinley was just able to add 18 runs of 28 balls when he was caught at mid-on of Kinley bowl.

One time, situation of Nima was in a big trouble when wickets was just falling quickly but then Luchmi Prasad (Papu) who is medium pacer added 29 runs to take the score to 118runs in 21.5 overs. “If we could have played last nine overs, the total runs would be exceptional” said the hard hitter Luchmi. The captain of Yangchenphug Dechen was the devastation bowler in the final match when made Nima’s batsmen trouble all in his 5 overs. He took 5 wickets in 5overs and gave away 30runs. “It is not a big target, our batsmen need to play a sensibly” said the Yangchenphu Captain.

In the second inning, Yangchenphu openers started with good opening partnership of 30 runs but Dechen was caught at 13runs and Kinley was bowled. Nima putting more pressure on Yangchenphug made them lost another 2 quickly wickets adding just 6 runs. Yangchenphug was 52 for 4wkts. Bishnu who added 24 runs later at the crucial moment but could stay till the end. Yangchenphug lost by 17 runs. Highest wicket taker was Gadhen who took 4 wkts to lead his team to victory. “I am very much happy to after winning this championship” said Gadhen of Nima.

The Chief Guest on the final was Mr. CB Pradhan, Program Officer of Department of Youth & Sports. “I am very much happy to see cricket growing faster than another other sports in Bhutan, it was started few years back and has already started bring international trophies” he added. Mr. Rumesh also gave away a short speech on the progress that he has seen now. He said he left CDO as Bhutan three years back and I am surprised that cricket has really grown; I am here now as CDO again and have plan for Bhutan to achieve ODI Status in near future.

    i think, it was great tournament...i would like to say that bhutan cricket is growin up vry fast....n abt the tournament,it was organized well...n more schools has participated in this tournament n there was excitement till the end,that is main thing,so lastly keep playing cricket

    This match was so close.... i thought we pulled it out but man.... Kencho's and Jonny's captaincy was too good....

    Yes sanjeev cricket is a boon in Bhutan and we are happy we are a part of it....
