Oman & Kuwait both eying for a semi-final spot in the ongoing ACC Elite trophy 2010 put up their best performance so far, a match that sparked quite a lot of interest till the 45 over in which Oman ultimately sealed a victory over the spirited Kuwait challenge. The Oman goal was achieved by a lively, crowd-lifting partnership from Adnan Ilyas & Sultan Ahmed who were engaged in a 124 runs partnership which guided Oman to chalk out a much needed victory.
Winning the toss for the third successive time, Kuwait captain Hisham Mirza along with Khalid Butt exploited the field restrictions and plundered 53 runs in 7 overs, the bulk of it coming from the heavy blade of Khalid Butt. The duo, Kuwait ’ s most experienced players set the tone for and kept things on track to ensure a healthy total. The introduction of Awal Khan resulted in the downfall of botht the openers and Khalid Butt by now had scored 53 runs with 8 fours & two sixes. Deep Trivedi the off spinner then cut way through the Kuwait innings by dismissing the well settled Lasantha Dimuthu (29 runs) & Saud Iqbal. Kuwait then threatened to fight back as Mohammed Amin & Mohammed Khan through a feisty 47 runs stand. Amin who scored 43 runs was comfortable rotating the strike and found the boundary six times and also clearing it once with a strong strike over wide midwicket. Mohammed Khan contributed 28 runs and it was the late onslaught by Haji Javed who stroked a valuable 24 runs & Khalid Yameen with 20 runs that enabled Kuwait to reach 247 runs at the end of 50 overs.

Trivedi excelled in his square cuts and Vaibhav stuck the cherry with awesome power. Introduction of young left arm spinner Shahid Haroon brought the downfall of both the batsmen and the first to depart was Trivedi who made 46 valuable runs and Vaibhav making 20 runs. Thereafter, it was left for the most capped players in the Oman side Adnan Ilyas & Sultan Ahmed to repair the damage and the built the platform. Adnan Ilyas scored a cracking unbeaten 82 runs in 84 deliveries accumulating his runs in a typically anonymous and understated fashion while Sultan Ahmed played a sheet anchor role to knock 52 runs. Amir Kaleem remained unbeaten with 24 runs. Adnan Ilyas & Deep Trivedi were both nominated as the Players of the day for their stupendous performances.
