Punakha and Wangduephodrang districts umpires has Talent

Bccb Development Program for 2010 started with the Umpiring Course in Punakha concluded on 28th March 2010 in Ugyen Academy School, the two days Level ‘O’ Umpiring Course saw about 20 participants mostly school games teacher and teacher from Punakha and Wangdue District, Mrs Tshering Zam was the only lady Participant. The Course was conducted by Mr Ugyen Dorji and Checho Dorji, Umpires of Bhutan.

On day one, theory class were taken where the participants were brief and video conference on the basic Duties of umpires, ICC Umpires Code of Conduct, role of umpires, brief discussion of law, the ways of dismissal, signals and the penalty runs apart from the discussion of Law 42 - Fair and Unfair play. On day two, the participants were given practical assignment in the ground where they were sent in pairs to take the job of on field umpires and two were assign to do as scorer.

This course helped us a lot in knowing the basic of umpiring skills, before the course i was just aware of the cricket game itself and not with umpiring skills, now i have a knowledge of one or two of umpiring skills, watching Indian Premier League and cricket match benefited too said Ugyen from Punakha Higher Secondary School.

The course will benefit the Punakha and Wangdi district when they organized school tournament this year, i have been trying to organised the school tournament here in puankha after BCCB Level ‘O’ coaching camp last year and with no umpires taking the field , it became an necessary for us to have such kind of course which will be a great help for us to organised the school by our own, said Kinley Dorji Games Teacher and BCCB focal person for Punakha District.
