ACC Trophy Elite 2010

OMAN CROAK SINGAPORE

Oman didn't really give Singapore a chance in today's Group A encounter of the ACC Trophy Elite, from first to last they pretty much did as they pleased and finished as winners by eight wickets.

For a team that has no access to turf for play or practise in Muscat, the Omani cricketers really showed how hard they've been practising as they didn't allow habitual grass users Singapore a sniff of victory.

Oman's bowlers were threatening from the start, Hemin Desai and Haider Ali making good use of the new ball and the spinners kept the pressure on throughout. Awal Khan shone in his spell, taking 4-29. He's a simple cricketer - puts the ball in the right place, askes the batsmen querstions and the ones who have no patience and no fortitude inevitably sucumb.

There was a spell in the middle of the innings when Munish Arora (45 off 103) and Narender Reddy (21 off 42) went scoreless for 27 deliveries. With a great batsman liker Marvan Atapattu coaching them that's not going to happen again but today Singapore were totally outplayed.

When it came to their turn to bat, Singapore's 173 was just chipped away at over after over, Singapore only managing one maiden. Left-handed Vaibhav Wategaonkar (60 off 74) showed some class and Oman debutant Deep Trividi (45* off 88) played very well. Adnan Ilyas (52* off 37) did what he does best, hit hard and true off bowling that was too short and too full too often and Oman romped home in the 34th over.
