UAE upset favorites Afghanistan

UAE upset the applecart of Afghanistan as they narrowly prevailed over favorites Afghanis by 2 wickets in the ongoing ACC Elite trophy 2010 played at Kuwait Entertainment city ground. A large Afghan contingent had come to watch their team in action and this match as expected turned out to be a great thriller and UAE gained a sweet revenge to their loss against Afghanistan in the recently concluded ACC T20 trophy in Dubai.

Afghanistan won the toss and on a fine sunny morning decided to bat first. Noor Ali & Karim Khan opened the inning s for Afghanistan and put on 41 runs. UAE captain Khuram Khan brought his trump card Shahdeep Dsilva from the north end which brought the downfall of Karim Khan for 16 runs. Shadeep struck twice in the next over as be got Mohammed Asghar right in front of the wicket and to add woes to the Afghanistan a, Captain Nawroz Mangal was bowled neck & crop to a top spinner. Meanwhile Arshad Ali's direct hit to the stumps sent back the dangerous Noor Ali back to the pavilion for a neatly compiled 26 runs. At this stage Afghanistan were 57 for 4.

Afghanistan with lot of experience gained put on a brave fight as wicket keeper batsman Mohammed Shehazad & former captain Rais Ahmadzai put their heads down and slowly built up a fruitful partnership of 68 runs for the 5 th wicket.Raiz played a fantastic knock of 56 runs and Shahzad hit a patient 33 runs. It was Samiullah Shinwari who played a cameo knock of 50 runs to post a decent total of 217 runs in the allotted 50 overs. Shahdeep was the most successful bowler capturing 3 wickets for 30 runs.

The tall & lanky Shahpur struck in the very first over for Afghanistan as he bowled UAE's Indika and had Arshad Ali caught in his third over. Abdulrahman stood firm to strike a useful 30 runs. UAE were in trouble again as Nawroz dismissed his counterpart Khuram Khan for 7 runs to the delight of the large Afghanistan supporters. This brought the ever dependable Sakib Ali to the crease and he played one of his best innings in the tournament by patient but sensible batting display

Fayyaz Ahmed played an anchor role to guide the UAE to a much deserved victory. Sakib Ali remained unbeaten with a super 93 runs to the credit and thus gaining his second man of the match award.Shapur bowled well claiming 3 wickets for Afghanistan.
